Lecture 8 will focus on the Introduction of Energy Transport.

In this chapter, the following principles of heat transfer will be covered:
  • Fourier's Law of heat conduction
  • Convective Energy Flux
  • Molecular Work Flux
  • Combined Energy Flux
Besides that, the energy balance equation for steady-state will also be introduced.

As we all know, energy can be transmitted through 3 means, such as:
  • Conduction
  • Convection
  • Radiation
Conduction is a molecular energy transport due to the motion of the constituent molecules. Next, Convection is an energy transport due to the bulk motion of the fluid and depends on the density of the fluid. Whereas radiation does not require a material medium to be transmitted.

The driving force of energy transport is the difference in temperature.

Reflection
In this lecture, I learned about a new type of transport phenomenon, which is energy transport. Energy transport happens due to a temperature difference in the system which acts as the driving force. Besides that, I also learned about Newton's Law of Cooling which will be useful to estimate the heat transfer through a solid-fluid interface. I am interested to know more about this topic.
